Does your unit work with out swing doors? Most of the pictures are with inswing units.
Peter,
Thank you for your question. Yes, the Plisse retractable screen can be used with either in swing or out swing doors.
Please feel free to let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,

Doug, I have a patio door opening of 119 1/2″ long x 78 1/2″ high. Do I have to special order a “hidden” screen for this opening (How much will it cost)?. Also, will the screen come in two pieces (59 1/4″ each) which will meet in the middle when closed – and, if so, how do they attach to one another when closed? Finally, I live in Kona, Hawaii. What is the cost of shipping and the time frame for delivery?
Thanks, Wayne
Wayne,
The maximum width we can do with a Plisse retractable screen is 100″ wide (sometimes we can squeeze out a couple of extra inches, but not much more). For a 119 1/2″ wide opening you’d need to consider a combination of singles (max width 50″), doubles (max width 100″-104″) or both. There would need to be a post of some sort to mount the side of the screens to that is not attached to the frame of the opening. For instance, if you used two narrow doubles you would need a post in the center of the opening to mount to. The price for your height single Plisse is $199 and for your height double Plisse is $359.
Shipping to Hawaii is via UPS and costs you $25. We are currently two to three weeks out on shipment of new orders but please bear in mind that all of our screens are custom built when you order them.
I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have or talk with you about planning retractable screens for your patio if you’d like to discuss possible options.
Thank you for considering Plisse retractable screens for your screening needs!

Does the screen fabric remain ‘pleated’ when the screen door is closed? Or, does the screen fabric become taut when closed?
How does the pleated fabric seal top and bottom to keep insects (mosquitos or gnats) out?
When using a single screen for a double wide patio door (not sliding) – does the screen stop at the center when you let go of the handle, or does it continue to open?
How difficult is it to replace the screen material if damaged by a pet or grandchild?
Gary,
Thank you for your great questions. When the screen door is retracted the screen fabric is pleated/folded away into the handle (aka housing). When the screen door is in use you pull the handle across the opening and it unfolds the fabric as you pull. When fully pulled across the opening the fabric will still have visible fold lines but the pleats will be stretched out. The fabric fits up into the top rail and down into the bottom rail to create a seal that very effectively keeps all sorts of bugs out. Additionally, the advantage to our pleated retractable screen versus traditional spring-loaded retractable screens is that a slight wind won’t blow the fabric out of the track, opening your home to those bugs you’re trying to keep out.
I’m not sure I understand your question about the single screen for a double door. The maximum width you can use a single Plisse retractable screen for is 50″, anything wider than 50″ (up to aprox. 104″) would need a double Plisse retractable screen. If you’re wanting to use a single Plisse to screen a french style door where only one door opens then the frame would be installed around the open side of the doorway and the fabric would pull across just the opening doorway to make a seal against it’s frame on the center of the doorway. If both doors open but you only want to screen one side we recommend against this as the installation of the Plisse frame around just one of the doors would mean that one of the rails would need to be permanently attached to the other door and you could no longer open it at all. This can be a tricky concept so please feel free to contact us if you have more questions about this – or anything else.
As for what the screen does when you let go of the handle – it does nothing. Our retractable screens do not have springs pulling tension on the fabric so they stay wherever you put them. For instance, if you have a very wide opening and you open the screen half way across the opening to walk through it you can take your hand off the handle as you walk through and it will stay right there. Then, once you are through the opening, you simply pull it back closed. This is a commonly undervalued feature of our non-spring loaded retractable screens.
Lastly, in regards to fabric replacement we are currently preparing to unveil our new Plisse II retractable screen design. There are some very minor updates to the new Plisse design (we’re always working on improving the product however possible) but the big announcement is that the new Plisse II will have the added advantage of being able to replace the fabric without uninstalling the screen. Currently we can send you replacement fabric and if you are mildly handy you can follow the included instructions and get the job done in about an hour. But with the new Plisse II (available this summer) you could replace the fabric in as little as 10-15 minutes.
I hope I answered all of your questions but feel free to contact me directly if you have any others.
Thank you for considering Plisse retractable screens by Screen Solutions inc.

Doug, the Screen Guy
Doug,
When will you introduce the new Plisse II screen.
Claudia,
Thanks for asking! We plan to unveil the Plisse II in July – just a few short weeks from now.
Best,
Doug, the Screen Guy
Got it mounted in my RV and the prtcuie is great. The definition is good, the color is good . I couldn’t be happier with the unit itself or the shipping. The instructions however need some work. They are worded badly and it’s hard to make sense of them. The instructions however do not take away from the fact that the screen works great therefore, I have to give this product a nice review.
I have in-swing french doors leading out to a deck. I also have, however, security doors on the deck side. Does this preclude the possibility of using your double retractable door screens?
Thomas,
My apologies that it’s taken me so long to get back to you regarding your question, it seems that your comment got caught in our spam filter. In regards to your question, it’s hard to say but I suspect that you could still use a double retractable door screen on your french doors. The best way to be sure though is if you can snap a picture or two (detail of the trim as well as overall shot of the opening) and email them to me. I’ll then take a look and give you an honest opinion on whether or not it will work and if so the best way to go about installation.
Thanks for your interest in our Plisse retractable screens.

Doug,
I’m looking for a retractable screen door for my Platinum living quarter horse trailer. The jamb opening is 32″wx 72″h. Are your screen doors durable enough for RV use? If so what would your price be delivered to the San Diego, Ca. area?
Thanks,
Tim Boyd
Hi Tim,
Thanks for considering our Plisse screens for your horse trailer. We have had a couple of customers use our screens on recreational vehicles and motorhomes with great success. The size you mentioned would be no problem at all and would cost $199 with free UPS ground shipping and no applicable sales tax. Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks again.

Hi Doug-
I’m interested in a retractable screen for a sliding patio door (about 80″ high x 36″ wide).
1. I’m concerned about the bottom rail being a tripping hazard.
2. Will water drain past the bottom rail?
3. How much are the replacement screens?
4. When is the Plisse II going to be available and what will the price be?
Thanks,
Van
Hi Van,
Thank you for contacting us regarding a retractable screen for your sliding patio door. A lot of sliding doors come with a sliding screen as well and so most of our customers who are replacing that screen with one of our Plisse retractable screens find that they can utilize that existing track as a guide for where to install one of our screens. But because they bottom rail does stick up it can sometimes cause a tripping hazard and so we suggest adding the optional threshold adapter to your order. This will install tightly up against the bottom rail of the Plisse screen, creating a transition from the ground up to the top of the bottom rail and eliminating any tripping hazard. The threshold adapter is $10 for a single (unless you choose solid oak) and there is some helpful information about them on the blog as well.
In regards to your second question, I think you may be concerned about water damming up in the bottom rail. We haven’t had any customers have this problem in the past and suspect that the new bottom rail cover available with the Plisse II will further reduce any risk of that.
The replacement screen assemblies are $55 per unit (a single door is one unit, a double is two) plus our cost of UPS shipping.
The Plisse II is currently available upon request (simply note that that is your preference in the order comments box at the end of the order process). There is currently no price change for the Plisse II though there may be in the future.
Thanks again and please let us know if there is anything else we can answer or clarify for you.

Hi Doug,
We recently bought a home with double entry doors and no screens. We like to leave our front door open to create a cross breeze in the house, but we have an indoor-only cat, therefore we need screens. I wanted to clarify this scenario: Only one of the entry doors is active, the other is stationary. I assume we would have to install a double screen. And if we then opened the active door, I assume we would need to close both sides of the screen to meet in the middle, not just the active side, in order to keep the cat in. Am I picturing that right?
Also, do they tend to be durable enough to handle some pressure from a pet? Sometime our cat will push on a screen door to see if he can open it.
Thanks for your help!
Heather
Heather,
Thank you for stopping by and considering our Plissé retractable screens for your new home. In your situation you would just need a single door Plisse screen to use on the active side of your double entry doors, assuming that the active door’s opening width is 49″ or less. In this case, you’ll just open the door, slide the screen across the active opening and you are safely letting in the breeze while keeping out the bugs.
They are quite durable, we have also have an indoor feline companion and she paws and pushes at the screen quite a bit without any problem. Often she pushes the pleats out so that the fabric is bowed a little there but the fabric has “memory” and when retracted back will fold back nicely into the original pleated folds. I do recommend requesting extra tension line clips in the comments section of your order so that you can be sure you have enough to make you feel comfortable that your kitty won’t try to slip under and escape. Additionally, when you install the screen you can adjust the tension more snugly so that the screen is harder to move (by human or feline).
Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions and thanks again.

I am thinking about purchasing one of your retractable screens for my interior garage door to let the breezes into the house. My question may sound stupid, but when you say the door is right handed or left handed, is that looking from the inside or outside of the door ?
James,
This is actually a quite common question and one we obviously need to do a better of job of clearly answering on our site. Thank you for your inquiry. The handing depends primarily on which side of the door you are installing the screen on. If your door swings out then you’ll install the Plisse retractable screen on the inside and the handing is determined by looking at the doorway from the inside.
Conversely, if your door swings inside your home, you’ll look at it from the outside to determine the handing.
I hope this answers your question but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.

I recently bought a condo and there are no screens in the bedroom windows. The windows slide open sideways are there screens I can purchase for this type of window. What would be my first step?
Kathleen,
Our Plisse retractable screens are perfect for this type of opening. I’d suggest taking a picture of the window and emailing it to us ([email protected]) along with some basic measurements of the height and width of the part of the window that opens. We can then help you with planning for your installation, as well as pricing.
Thank you for considering our Plisse invisible screens for your home,
