Sliding Doors

The Plissé retractable screen can easily be used on a sliding glass door with the addition of a surface mount adapter.

The photograph and diagram below show the position of the Plissé screen when mounted on sliding glass style doors.

I have a house in Florida with sliding patio doors that have 3 panels. Each panel is 3 feet wide and the end panel and middle panel slide behind the third panel. This leaves an opening of 6 feet. Do you have a retractable screen that would work for this configuration? If so where would it be mounted and how would it attach to the edge of the stationary panel?
Thank you,
Laurie H.

Laurie,

Thank you for considering our Plisse retractable screens for your home. The double Plisse should work great for your sliding patio doors. Our optional Surface Mount Adapter is designed to install to the stationary door of a sliding glass doorway and the Plisse then mounts to it. The other side typically will mount to the inside of the door frame.

The best way to be sure of where it will install and how it will be configured is to email me some pictures of the openings with some basic information (height, width, threshold set up, etc) – I’ll then look them over, mark them up with questions or tips for the best installation and get them back to you right away. Please send your pictures along with any other questions to me directly: doug(at)plissescreen.com

Thanks again,

I have a tall 8′ x 4′ wide sliding door in my condo and need a replacement screen door. The tracks are made for bottom rollers and top is slide-in frame. I can go with either 8′ x 3′ or wider. My fixed door is on the inside.

What kind of solution can you present and the approximate cost?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Daniel,

I suggest you take a couple of pictures of your doorway and send them over so we can take a look. We will be able to make and include some mounting blocks for the existing screen’s tracks that will make your installation and final look much nicer. You’ll also likely need one of the optional surface mount adapters. The approximate cost for either width would be $219 plus $15 for the adapter. Shipping is by FedEx ground for free to the lower 48 states. Here is the information on sending pictures.

Thank you for your interest in our Plissé retractable screens for your sliding glass door.

Our sliding glass door is a strange size and unfortunately the manufacturer is out of business. Our screen door broke and I am having trouble finding a good solution. The current door is 77 1/4″ high, with a width of 35 1/2″ and a thickness of 7/16″. Do your retractable doors use existing tracks, or do they have their own? Are there adapters for difficult exterior molding/trim? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tim,

I think there may be a misunderstanding. We sell retractable screens for all styles of doors and windows – including sliding glass doors. But we do not sell sliding glass doors themselves.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you are looking for a retractable screen for that sliding glass door. We are more than happy to help however we can.

Thank you for visiting!

I seem to have unusual size sliding doors. The openings are approx 95″ tall x 29″ wide. Do you make sliding door screens for this size door? I need bronze color.

Hi Terry,

That is an unusually tall and narrow doorway but we have not problem building you one of our custom sized Plisse retractable screens for it. The price for that size would be $219, including free FedEx ground shipping to the lower 48 states, plus $12 for the surface mount adapter you would need in order to mount it to your sliding glass door. Both the screen and the adapter are available in our oiled bronze as a standard color.

If you need help preparing your order or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you,

I have a customer with a large, energetic Boxer. The dog runs through the sliding screen door resulting in torn screen and bent frame. I have tried different screen material and guards, still the dog runs through the screen. I would like to try a retractable screen door, but, I am afraid the dog will ruin it. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for any help you may offer.

Tom,

Thank you for your interest in our Plisse retractable screens, as well as for your question. It sounds like there is no screen that will survive this boxer! I can say that our Plisse retractable screens are often run through with little or no damage to the screen. Typically the screen just needs to be “put back together” and it’s good as new but a big dog like a boxer who is on a mission might do some real damage, possibly tearing the screen fabric itself. If that happened, our retractable screen is currently the only one available that has a replacement fabric assembly that can be done by homeowner or contractor on site. The assembly currently costs $55 per unit (a single is 1 unit, a double is 2) plus cost of shipping.

The only other suggestion I have is a piece of plexi-glass covering the bottom couple feet of the screen. I dislike mentioning this because it seems to me to hinder the use of the screen and block some of the desired breeze but in a situation such as this, it may be the only viable option to keep man and his best friend happy.

I hope I’ve been of some assistance – please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions.

Thanks again,
Doug the Screen Guy
